About
a week before it happened we were over at B's grandparents for a family dinner.
His sister Shantell told us that she was going down to St George with her
husband, Clancy, and their friend Nate the upcoming weekend. They said they
were going down to see Nate's girlfriend that lives down there because Clancy
got a few days off work over that weekend. She invited us to go with them and B
said he would watch the weather to make sure it wasn't supposed to snow and
that we'd let them know. Side note - for those of you who don't know B, he does
snow removal in the winter so when it snows he goes. I had a dreadfully slow
week at work so all I could think about was going to St George over the
weekend. Come Wednesday B said it was supposed to snow, so we told his sister
that we weren't going to be able to come down, and that we would let them know
if anything changed.
During this slow week
of mine I was approached by another company for job opening they thought I
would do really good at. They offered me the job on Thursday and told me I
needed to decide by the following Monday, the 23rd of February. Nuts! All day
Thursday and Friday I was all depressed that we weren't going to be able to get
out of town, while also stressing about what I was going to do with that job offer.
I kept questioning the risk, what I would do if I accepted it and things didn't
work out, what if I couldn't learn everything they needed me to before there
busy season, etc. After talking with B and my family on Thursday night I
started seeing the good that could come out of the job, and hey with an offer
that good - how can you turn it down?! Friday at work I put in my two weeks
with doTERRA, and told the other company, Pro Look Sports that I could start
the following Monday, March 2nd. Crazy life change in a matter of hours right?!
Friday at work B
called me around 4:30 and told me to pack my bags, we were going to St George!
Wahoo!!! As I am leaving work he asked me if I wanted to run to the Hunting
Expo really fast before it closed. We met up at 5:00, got some In-N-Out to go,
and went up to the convention center in SLC. We saw his friend Bodey and his fiancé
Jacee up there and I got to love on their baby Rowan for a good hour. This is
rare, because hardly any babies like me haha. That sounds bad, but it’s so
true, they just cry when I hold them usually. We left the expo, and went home
to pack our bags and watch an episode of Dexter.
Super early the next
morning, Saturday March 21st, we went and grabbed a coffee at our favorite
local coffee joint and headed down to St George. We met up with his sister, her
husband, and Nate for some breakfast at a little 'hole-in-the-wall' restaurant,
Bear Paw. At breakfast we were deciding what we wanted to do that day and it
was between either going to the Lava Caves or Kanarraville Falls. The weather
was decent, not warm but a little stormy so we decided to go with the hike to
the waterfall.
On the drive there,
about 45 minutes from St George, we were all talking and reading reviews of the
hike. We knew the water was going to be on the cold side, but we didn't expect
it to be as cold as it was or to have parts with snow still haha! Now let me
tell you firsthand how unprepared we were...I'm talking Nikes, tiny thin socks,
thin Nike leggings, tank top, and a light jacket - B was in shorts! We were
crazy. As we are hiking on the path/trail part we keep seeing groups come down
freezing, and at least one person has a gnarly cut/scrape. It kind of freaked
all of us out, but we kept pushing along.
(First waterfall)
We got to the first
waterfall, which is the one you see in everyone's pictures or when you Google
it. Climbed up this sketchy ladder, took some pictures, and KEPT GOING. Yes, I
was kind of getting frustrated and cold by this point. We get to the second
waterfall, take some more pictures, and KEEP GOING…again! At this point I
admit, I was getting kind of pissy. On our way to the third waterfall we had to
go through this point where you were in water to mid-thigh, it was FREEZING!
Nate slipped at one point and hit his shin really hard on a slippery rock,
hence everyone's cut/scrapes haha. We get to the third waterfall, take some
pictures, and finally head back down. Now I’m talking run/jogging back down
because we are all so cold and couldn't feel our feet anymore.
(Third waterfall)
We get back down to
the second waterfall and the boys start goofing off in the water/boulder area.
I am literally like dancing to keep warm on the side by Brayden's sister. After
a few minutes, I am saying 'let's go guys!' and his sister keeps asking me,
'don't you want to get a few pictures with B?' and all I would respond with is
'we got some on the way up, so I think we're good!'. After many countless
tries, she finally just tells me to go take a freaking picture. Now at this
point I was still clueless, in my head I was like oh if I go take a picture
they will let me go back to the car haha. I go up to the rock area and stand by
B and..........
(Me still clueless haha)
(Me chanting finally!!)
(B being the goofy kid he is, pushes me in the waterfall after haha!)
We are getting married on July 17th 2015! Wahoo, finally! If your lucky, I'll post the video of the proposal when I get some free time. Let the chaos begin! (:
